The Best Of Blog Awards: Changing Lives And Turning Heads

March 18, 2008 – 5:18 am

As part of our effort to spotlight past winners and the changes they have witnessed in the year or so since they won a BoB award, today’s post features a new edition of The Best of The Best Of Blog awards. Today we are paying a visit to the winner of last year’s Best Adoption/Fertility blog AKA Stirrup Queens.

Stirrup Queens is described as “a blog about infertility and pregnancy loss, an exploration of adoption and donor gametes, a bitch session about daily life and books, an outlet for stories and baking lessons written by a sustainable-living, kosher, Jewish, mother of twins conceived via fertility treatments who is still trying to add to her family”

Started in July of 2006, Stirrup Queens sets out to give those trying to conceive hope and resources to better help them in their quest to become pregnant. Be it posts about different medications, how-to videos on different forms of injection, or how to deal with pregnancy loss, all it takes is one glance to see that the site’s author Melissa is truly out to lend a hand to all that are experiencing the same situations she has faced as a parent who conceived via fertility treatments.

Over the past year Melissa and her blog have gone through some amazing adventures. “Winning the award meant more people found out about my blog, Stirrup Queens, which meant that people also found out about my blogroll. In turn, as those new people told others, the blogroll grew to be 1200 blogs (and still counting)…. I listed my BoB Award as I was shopping my manuscript this year and I ended up early-on with a book deal. The book is forthcoming from Seal Press in spring of 2009. And the BoB Award certainly helped.”

For Melissa her upcoming book along with the increase in traffic on Stirrup Queens is a fantastic development and to us at the Best Of Blog awards Melissa is the reason we come back year after year to do the awards all over again. We understand how hard it is for voices to be heard in the blogosphere and that’s why we make it our job to lift those voices up and showcase them to the rest of the world. Way to go Melissa!!
